Since 2005 there has been a cooperation agreement between the University of Bielefeld and the University of Guadalajara in Mexico. In 2007, an intensive exchange program (Internationale Studien- und Ausbildungspartnerschaft, ISAP) began, which is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service, DAAD. The exchange program promotes the mobility of students and professors, and each semester three scholarships are awarded, in order to enable students from both universities to experience an international academic stay at the partner institution. Students from Guadalajara study abroad in Bielefeld during the summer semester, while students from Bielefeld study abroad in Guadalajara during the winter semester.
The current agreement binds our university with University of Guadalajara's University Center of Social Sciences and Humanities (CUCSH). The departments of the CUCSH offer several programs related to InterAmerican Studies in the fields of social sciences, media, literature, philosophy, history, and cultural studies. The subjects studied and credits earned during the stay at the partner university can be transferred to the University of Bielefeld upon the student's return.
The University of Guadalajara offers an environment conducive to learning, and the opportunity to meet students from different disciplines and backgrounds. In addition, the university facilitates various cultural and academic events throughout the semester in order to facilitate the prompt adaption of international students.
As part of its cultural program, the University of Guadalajara organizes the International Book Fair (FIL), which has become the largest event of its kind in Latin America. Every year the FIL presents an extensive program of presentations, conferences, and concerts, aimed at professionals in the publishing world as well as the general public.
